Local Rider Sines in National Competition

Mary Mazzarella also captured a state title.

Tolland Resident Mary Mazzarella won her horseback riding hunter/jumper division this week at the Marshall & Sterling Insurance League National Finals in Saugerties, NY.

The Marshall & Sterling Insurance League was first designed to encourage and enhance the competition level for riders of all ages by providing the opportunity to qualify for a prestigious national finals competition. It has grown from 10 member shows and approximately 100 riders in 1991, to more than 1,300 horse shows and more than 2,300 riders in 2013.

Mary, 13, won the Pony Medal Finals on Thursday with her pony, Libby Lou Who. She attained the highest score of the show at 92 - scoring higher than any junior or adult.

The score earned her the award for Best Child Rider of the entire show.
Mary also won the Pony Medal Championship at the State Finals in August at The Fairfield Hunt Club. The state event is sponsored by the Connecticut Hunter/Jumper Association. Mary is an eighth-grade at St. James School in Manchester.

She rides at Windcrest Farm in Hebron with Martha Chenelle.

The Marshall & Sterling Insurance League National Finals Horse Show took place Sept. 11 to 15 at the HITS-on-the-Hudson show grounds in Saugerties.
