Snowboard Mounts Are An Artful Solution

Connecticut Company HangTime USA Has Innovative Product

A friend calls, asking for help. His daughter is moving into a college dorm room. She's a freshman, so we both knew there would be a lot of stuff.

Had to take care of some business early the day she was to move in, so the two had about a hour head start by the time I arrived on campus.

Knock.

"What the ...?"

"My snowboard!"

Uh oh. The snowboard, a nice one, was parked behind the door, leaning against the wall. The door hit it hard, but luckily it was not scratched and the bindings checked out OK. The daughter calmed down relatively quickly and everything was eventually unpacked.

The friend called again the next day and pleaded for more assistance. He was able to secure a mini-fridge for the dorm room and needed help carrying it. We drove together the second time. When we entered the room, we had to move a box of about 658 pairs of shoes before we could put the fridge into place.

"Where does this box go?"

"Uh, just throw it in the closet for now."

"OK…"

Opened the closet door, tossed the box inside..

"What the ...?"

SMACK!

"My snowboard!"

She moved the board. It was hit again.

Thought for a minute. Dorm room. Limited space. The Wall? Yes, the wall.  It was off to the search engine on her laptop: Snowboard Wall Mounts. Up popped a product made by HangTimeUSA.

HangTime makes one of the more sensible snowsports products on the market right here in Connecticut. The two mounts are screwed to the wall at a distance slightly wider than the board itself. Rubber grips on swivels allow the board to slide into the mounts and lock into place. It slides right out in about a second.

The plastic construction of the mount will not damage the board.

HangTime is a subsidiary of Progress Inc., a Newington-based engineering, design and prototype company. The sales pitch for HangTime is that is turns a snowboard into a piece of wall art and the claim is pretty accurate. Snowboarders are always serious about showing off their boards and this does the trick with minimal effort concerning taking it on and off and the mounts are minimally intrusive on the walls themselves.

It's a smart product that solves a big-time space dilemma and it looks good. The mounts are small and make the board the focal point, not the rack.

The standard mounts come in either black or white and are listed both on Amazon and on www.HangTimeUSA.com for $19.99 each. The HangTime site features sets of three for $50.97. Colored mounts are available on special order.

Turns out, the daughter of my friend is a big hit with her board on the wall. She said several students have come by to check it out.
