Tolland 12-Year-Old All-Stars Take District Championship

The team earned the title defeating South Windsor at Lion's Field, 7-5, in a well-matched game.

Tolland's 12-year-old All-Stars added another success to a stellar season Monday night, taking the District 8 championship in a 7-5 game against South Windsor.

Both teams fought earnestly for the title at Lion's Field in a tight game. The opponents tied at 3-3 by the third inning and kept the pressure high, trailing each other almost run for run as the game progressed.

"We just stayed focused," said Tolland coach Kristoffer Popovitch. "We went inning by inning."

Patrick Regan and Matt Abbate led Tolland's offense, with two doubles for Regan and a double and a single for Abbate. Kyle Boutot contributed with two hits.

South Windsor's Will Nowak rocketed a three-run homer out of Lion's Field.

Andrew Jaworski commanded the pitching mound for more than five innings, with Clayton Keane stepping in and providing the final two outs for the win.

"Jaworski was magical," Popovitch said. He also thanked the team's fans for their support throughout the season. 

The all-stars will now move onto the state sectionals. They play in Mansfield on Wednesday.
