Tolland Soccer Kicks Off the Season with Jamboree

Local teams gathered at Tolland High School to sharpen their skills with pre-season matches.

Regional teams got back into the swing of the season at Saturday's Soccer Jamboree, held at Tolland High School.

Girls soccer teams from Manchester, Simsbury, Ellington, East Hartford, Rockville, East Hampton, Coventry and, of course, Tolland went head-to-head in four, 25-minute pre-season matches each.

"It helps us get ready for the season," said East Hampton coach Glenn Gustine, adding that he appreciates the opportunity to match his team with schools they don't play against in the regular season.

"I appreciate any opportunity to watch the games," said East Hampton parent Marc Lambert, explaining that work obligations sometimes make it difficult to attend his daughter's weekday games.

The sunny weather cooperated to complement the day of soccer matches. Tolland girls soccer coach Ken Boucher said that the day was an excellent start to the season, despite expected bumps in the road.

"It's always a little crazy," he said, "but it's all just an opportunity to fine tune."

According to the sports schedule posted on the high school's Web site, the Tolland girls soccer team will play its first game against Hall at Tolland High School Tuesday, September 13, at 3:45 p.m.
