Tolland Summer Solstice Sprint Triathlon Takes Place Under Sunny Skies

While many of us were just getting started for the day, 55 individuals were up and at 'em in the early hours of Saturday, June 16, getting prepared for the fifth annual Summer Solstice Sprint Triathlon event at in Tolland.

Participants competed in nine different age categories in the event, which began with a quarter-mile swim consisting of one lap around Crandall Pond. As athletes left the water, it was off to the softball field, where their bikes were waiting for the 12-mile leg of the race. Participants raced down Cider Mill Road, traveled some rural back roads leading to Grant Hill, then back to the starting point. Once at the bike transition area, it was time to run 3.1 miles down Cider Mill Road, around the Lions Field, back to Crandall Park and to the Parks and Facilities entrance to the bike transition area. Once there, it was time to perform the running portion again, this time ending at the finish line.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Recreation Scholarship fund and the Youth Hall Building Fund.
