"THANKS TO TOLLAND FIRE DEPT. FIRST RESPONDERS" Sam Belsito, Republican Candidate for CT State Representative, 53rd District, has a very good reason to thank the Tolland Fire Department. Tolland resident Sam Belsito has a very good reason to thank the Tolland Fire Department & its well-trained EMT team ‘over and over again’. Tolland’s EMT FIRST RSPONDERS saved Sam’s life. Ten years ago Sam suffered a massive heart attack in his home. It was an August evening and Sam was lucky. When Sam arrived home, he complained of a severe headache & feeling ill. Connecticut was in the midst of a heat wave, Sam had been driving & ‘heart attack’ never came to mind. There was no chest pain, no arm pain, no reason to think ‘heart attack’. Sam’s wife, Paulette, told him to take two aspirin & rest. After a short time, Paulette called 911 for medical help. Tolland’s ambulance and EMT team arrived, red lights flashing & sirens blasting. Once again, Sam was lucky. The team had recently been re-certified in just such a medical emergency. Tolland’s ambulance was well-equipped and ready to perform. The team accessed Sam’s condition and got him into the ambulance. The team used defibrillator paddles three times on Sam’s chest before leaving the driveway. Sam’s wife was unaware that Sam had suffered a ‘heart attack’ and unaware his life was in the hands of Tolland’s EMT team. Sam Belsito is alive today thanks to the efforts of the Tolland Fire Department’s FIRST RESPONDERS. He was brought to Rockville Hospital & St. Francis Hospital by Life Star in time to save his life. The following day, a Tolland EMT member approached Sam’s wife in a waiting area of St. Francis Hospital. He inquired after Sam’s condition….he cared and his team had reason to be proud of a job well done. Every citizen in every town owes a debt of gratitude to their Fire Department. Men and women of the Fire Department risk their own lives and train regularly to aid fellow-citizens. Sam Belsito owes his life to the Tolland Fire Dept. and EMT FIRST RESPONDERS. Sam Belsito is a candidate who cares and understands community needs. Sam will always support and stand behind the Fire Departments of Tolland, Willington and Ashford and any other communities in need.
