Wildflowers of Tolland Becomes Latest Sponsor; The shop and Savings Institute Bank and Trust will be honored by Tolland Town Council on June 10

TOLLAND – Wildflowers of Tolland has pledged $1,500 in in-kind services to the Tolland 300th Anniversary Celebration, becoming the latest major donor to help the town mark this important milestone in 2015.
Wildflowers of Tolland, a full-service florist owned by Heather Mathiau, is the second “Crandall” level sponsor of the anniversary. Donors are listed on the anniversary website at www.tolland300.org.
The flower shop at 642 Tolland Stage Road will provide all of the flowers for the Tolland 300th Anniversary Gala, which will be held May 16, 2015.
Mathiau, who has lived in Tolland since she was eight years old, said giving to the anniversary celebration fits her shop’s mission to give to the community.
“I have seen the spirit of this community and what its residents can do when called upon,’’ she said. “When approached by the Tolland 300th Anniversary Committee, the staff and I decided this would be a great opportunity to help make a wonderful event shine even more.”
Celeste Senechal, chairwoman of the anniversary committee, thanked Wildflowers of Tolland for its pledge. Mathiau and her business will be honored by the town council, the anniversary committee and the Tolland Historical Society on June 10 at 7:30 p.m. at town hall.
“We are grateful to Heather and Wildflowers of Tolland for this generous pledge to provide all of the flowers for the gala,’’ Senechal said. “This will be festive evening made all the more memorable by Heather’s floral creations.”
The shop opened in 2004, and Mathiau has been its proprietor since March of 2006.
“Being a small business owner is a challenge in today’s economic times,’’ Mathiau said. “We are thankful that the community supports us, and in turn, we can support community events.”
Besides the gala, the anniversary committee and the Historical Society are planning months of events in 2015 so that the milestone will be remembered as an inclusive, townwide celebration.
Other events include a Charter Day celebration for schoolchildren on the Tolland Green May 12, 2015 and a large regional parade and townwide picnic, combined with the Celebrate Tolland festival, on Sept. 19, 2015.
More donations are being sought from businesses and residents who want to be a part of the celebration. Opportunities include being a member of the “Tolland 300 Club” by making a $300 donation.
Checks should be made out to the Town of Tolland, with “300th anniversary committee” in the memo line. Donations can be mailed to the Tolland 300th Anniversary Committee, Town Hall, 21 Tolland Green, Tolland, CT 06084.
