Tolland Boys Outlast Manchester, 2-1, in Double OT in Season Opener
Weekes Tallies Game Winner in OT
Senior Alex Weekes broke down the left wing just 50 seconds into the first overtime and broke a 1-1 tie with his first goal of the season to propel Tolland to a 2-1 win in their season opener at Manchester Memorial Stadium.
Tolland dominated the early part of the match and senior Derek Lee found senior Tyson Bridge with a beautiful pass. Bridge broke in on the Manchester GK and slotted home the first goal of the season to put Tolland ahead 1-0. Manchester created several chances which drew big saves from Sophomore netminder Nick Olson before Jake Garlick drew the match level with a shot just under the crossbar before halftime.
The second half saw Manchester with more of the ball, although both teams had chances they should have converted. Early season finishing proved a bit elusive and the 2nd half ended as the first half did with the score knotted at 1-1.
The THS Eagles look for win number two on Friday against CCC East league favorite RHAM High School. The match will be held at Cross Farms at 3:45 pm. Originally scheduled for the renovated stadium at THS, the match has been moved because construction has not been completed.
