First Week a Success for Tolland Girls

Tolland girls soccer team started the season with two difficult games; Glastonbury and RHAM.

Last Wednesday, at Cross Farms, Tolland played Glastonbury- one of the best teams in the state- to a 0-0 tie. The game was an intense battle which saw both teams have opportunities to win the game. Tolland played a well organized game that had to deal with the relentless attack of Glastonbury. Sophomore goalie, Victoria Richardson had 14 saves. Andie Devaney, Kirsten Fagan, Kelsey Swanson and Emily Youmans played strong defensively.

On the following Friday Tolland traveled to RHAM and came back with a 2-0 victory. While is wasn't Tolland's most consistent game they persevered against a solid RHAM attack. After half time Tolland came out slightly more aggressive and broke the tie on a direct kick by Alex Matteo. After fighting  off RHAM's onslaught Tolland was able to disorganize RHAM and Alex Matteo caught RHAM's goalie out of the box to net her second goal of the game. Victoria Richardson was fantastic in goal with 12 excellent saves and Kelsey Swanson was solid on defense and midfield.
