Tolland Fire Explorers Host Open House

The explorers demonstrated their impressive first responder knowledge on Wednesday night.

Members of Tolland Fire Explorer Post 40 showed residents that they're ready to take on any emergency at their open house on Wednesday night.

The recruiting event featured a presentation explaining the , as well as demonstrations highlighting the group's first responder skills.

Public Safety Officers and volunteers from the assisted the young post members as they cut into a car to rescue a trapped motorist, searched a burning home for a child and responded to a medical call.

"It was very intense," said Tolland resident Kayla Dylewski, who said she might be interested in becoming an explorer herself one day. Explorers must be at least 14 years old.

"It was very educational," added Zach Asnes. He said he is considering joining the post after watching the lecture and demonstrations.
