Tolland Juniorettes: The Girls Behind the Flags

The community service group has been lining Tolland Green with miniature American flags to commemorate Sept. 11 for a number of years.

Lines of small U.S. flags frame Tolland Green each year, as the town pauses to remember Sept. 11 and holidays such as Veteran's Day.

But who takes the time and effort to place the patriotic symbols in the center of town?

It turns out that Tolland's Juniorettes, associated with Tolland Junior Women , have been quietly creating the memorial on the Green for a number of years.

According to advisor Alison Haigis, the flags serve as the group's own "little remembrance" during the anniversary.

However, she said that the Juniorettes have learned how much Tolland residents appreciate the gesture, as many drivers stop to say thank you as the flags are set up the night before.
