Tolland Resident Returns Home After Fighting Virginia Fires

Chris Renshaw was one of nine Connecticut private-sector firefighters who assisted at the Virginia forest fire.

Tolland resident Chris Renshaw, a firefighter with the UConn Fire Department, returned to Connecticut Wednesday evening after helping to extinguish a Virginia forest fire, according to a Department of Energy and Environmental Protection press release.

A total of 11 DEEP employees and nine private-sector firefighters left to battle the fire on July 1. The fire, which has been knocked down or contained, was spread over 1,200 acres in the George Washington National Forest, according to the release.

Firefighters from Arkansas and South Carolina also helped battle the blaze, according to The Northern Virginia Daily. Read more about the forest fire on The Northern Virginia Daily website.
