Packleaders Dog Rescue Dog, Puppy, and Kitten Palooza
Friday, 4 p.m. and Saturday, 11 a.m. - A national adoption event will be taking place at Petsmart. If you are looking for a rescue companion, stop by this weekend. Many dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens of all breeds and sizes will be available. The rescue group will also be taking donations of old blankets, food, treats, and toys. Fishing Derby at 
Shenipsit Lake Reservoir
Saturday, 8 a.m. - Connecticut Water Company is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a free Fishing Derby for children and adults on Saturday. Prizes will be awarded to the top anglers and refreshments will be available following the derby. Fishing will only be allowed from designated areas along the shoreline. Lake Shenipsit is a public water supply and no wading into the lake is allowed. Prizes will be awarded for two categories - 16 and under and over 16. All persons fishing who are 16 years or older must possess a valid Connecticut fishing license, and those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult with a valid Connecticut fishing license. Participants will need to provide their own equipment and bait. The fishing derby is open to the public. Parking is available only along the road. A hot dog cookout will take place at 12:30 p.m. at the boat storage facility for all participants. For more information, call 860-664-6053.

Somers Great Escape 5K and 5-Mile Run
Saturday, 8 a.m. - The 14th Annual Somers Great Escape is set for Saturday. There will be prizes for both the 5k and 5-mile run. Online pre-registration is available at www.sneaa.org/somers-great-escape/. Race day registration will begin at 7 a.m. Those that preregistered can pick up their bibs between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. Race t-shirts will be provided to race participants. The race day entry fee is $25. Both races will start simultaneously at 8 a.m. and will be chip timed by The Last Mile Race Timing. The 5k course is USATF certified. The 5-mile course is wheel measured. Awards and door prizes will be handed out immediately after the race.

Hartford Area Roller Derby
Saturday, 5 p.m. - Come cheer on the Beat City Bedrockers as they take on Garden State Roller Derby and watch the Capital City Liabilities in their first home expo bout (Freaks vs. Geeks). Donate a new or gently used bra to help support freethegirls.org and receive one free raffle ticket. There will be an after party in Red's Tavern. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Crystal Bowersox at the Stafford Palace Theater

Saturday, 8 p.m. - Crystal Bowersox will appear live in Stafford Springs on Friday. Tickets are $30 or $35. For more information, check out www.thestaffordpalacetheater.com.

South Windsor Fire Department Stop, Drop, and Roll 5k Challenge
Sunday, 8 a.m. - Join this cross country running event with challenging obstacles along the 5K course along the trails of Nevers Road Park in South Windsor. Parking and registration will be at the Community Center in South Windsor. The cost is $25 per participant. If you would like to register and pay now, follow this link.

Union Street Tavern Trot

Sunday, 12:30 p.m. - The 7th Annual Tavern Trot will be taking place on Sunday. The race will kick off at 12:30 p.m. Registration opens at 11 a.m. The Union Street Tavern Trot is a 3.5 mile road and trail race through the historic Windsor Centre, certified #CT0917JHP and a Manchester Road Race qualifier. Proceeds for the event will benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a national charitable foundation for childhood cancer research. The event will feature live entertainment, free refreshments, food and beer. Downton Abbey Era Exhibit
Sunday, 2 p.m. - On Exhibit: The Downton Abbey Years: What was life like in Granby in the early 1920’s. What “modern” conveniences were in the homes? What were the ladies wearing? On display will be many beautiful period garments that look like they just came off the Downton Abbey set. The Preservation barn continues with the  theme - highlighting the collection of WWI artifacts and a United States Navy uniform. A timeline comparing Granby (declared a Model Town in 1923), the United States, and world events during the 1910s-1920s will also be there. Quilts will also be on display. Also on the tour are the tobacco barn and the one-room school house. Admission is $4 (senior/member discounts).
