Weekend Planner: Peach Festival, Child Identification Program, Military Appreciation Day, and More

Manchester 8th District Fire Department Peach Festival
Friday, 6 p.m. - It’s that time of year again! The Manchester 8th District Fire Department will be hosting its 64th Annual Peach Festival from 6-8 p.m. at 138 Main St. It will be an entertaining night with the band 384 East jamming while you enjoy a delicious bowl of fresh peaches on top of a buttermilk biscuit topped with whipped cream. A ticket costs $4 which includes a chance to win one of over a dozen prizes donated by local Manchester businesses. Tickets can be purchased at the door. What a better way to enjoy the end of summer!

Child Identification Program
 
Saturday, 9 a.m. - The Ellington Republican Town Committee, in conjunction with the CT State Police, is sponsoring their annual Child I.D. program on Saturday at the Ellington Farmers' Market. This free program is open to all, not just residents of Ellington. Parents wishing to participate should bring their children to the Ellington Farmers' Market (at Arbor Park on Main Street) between 9 a.m. and noon.

Military Appreciation Day and Car Show
Saturday, 10 a.m. - Join Porter and Chester Institute in Enfield for a family friendly day as we show our appreciation and support to our military. There will be free food and beverage, military vehicles on display, music, kids activities, a bounce house, a water slide, face painting, and fundraising activities to benefit Enfield Neighborhood Services.

Brews, Blues & BBQ to Benefit the American Cancer Society
Saturday, noon - There will be a new local brewery on site, two blues bands (One Eyed Johnny and the Gravediggers and Easybaby). Music starts at 2 p.m. There will be BBQ on sale at a reduced price and will be ready around 1 p.m.  This is 21+ event and the cost is a $10 donation to the American Cancer Society.

Dream Ride 2013
Sunday, 9 a.m. - The East Coast’s Premier Charity Motorcycle Ride to benefit Special Olympics – Dream Ride 2013 presented by Bozzuto’s Inc. and Hometown Foundation - is back and better than ever! Dream Ride will be held on Sunday, August 25 at The Farmington Club, located at 162 Town Farm Rd. in Farmington. This much-anticipated event combines shiny-chrome, delicious food, live entertainment, industry-leading-vendors and – new this year – a Kid’s Fun-Stop Tent. There will be something for everyone and all are invited. For complete details and to register for the event, go to www.dreamride.org. Registration is $30 per motorcyclist, $20 per passenger and $20 per spectator. TSI Harley-Davidson, of Ellington, will serve as one of the starting points for the Ride. Artists' Day at Valley Falls Farm
Sunday, noon - Stroll the scenic hillsides around Valley Falls Farm! Visit with Connecticut plein air artists as they paint! View the artists' work for sale in the red barn (paintings created that day will be for sale as well). Listen to the guitar/mandolin duo Handler & Levesque. Join a historic tour of the Farm at 1 p.m. The public is invited between noon and 3 p.m. to enjoy these activities. Admission is free. Park in the parking lot at Valley Falls Park, just past the red barn. Be prepared for hillside walking.
