Maybe he needs to hold another meeting, perhaps write a more "strongly worded" letter orRead More make another phone to another more powerful politician. If that does not work, may I suggest he give a speech or possibly get on the floor of the Senate and "pull on the heart strings" of his colleagues.... and if none of this works... well he should put together an official investigation and hold a high level powerful meeting where tough questions can be asked. I wonder if this happened much back in the 1940's, 50's, etc. I recall children being caught insideRead More refrigerators that had been abandoned. There must be a foolproof way to prevent this happening to humans, and animals. What a hellish way to die.

It really does prove that many humans are getting more stupid and careless with each generation.Read More Adults forgetting the most important person in the world, their child, in a hot car. It would seem like the heat would make them more conscious of how hot the interior of their car is and how would they feel if they were trapped in that car themselves, pretty miserable huh ?, so why do they forget their child is in that car ? Distracted by hurrying for an appointment, a " hot date" with somebody they aren't married to, money worries, a party, anxious to grab the sales at the stores ? busy nattering/texting on the phone ? bla bla bla whatever, so what could be more important than the little person that they brought into the world who depends on them, and they let them sit in a hot car and die. What callous selfish rotten poor miserable excuses for human beings are these "parents" who would do that ! If they don't want or care enough about the child to remember them, give them to an adoption agency to find someone who will love and respect them.

I use to feel the way you did. Personality, the business class and particularly in Orange County hasRead More hired them for jobs for over 30 years. In fact some of the stats by the US Census while lots of conservatives will not agree with is some of the illegal immigrants left Santa Ana and Anaheim since they couldn't find jobs. The Census shows OC aging and Hispanic immigrants tend to make the county younger but OC is now about 37 years old. Hispanic immigrants tend to have more children and bring the average down. The US Census shows a dropped from 2.8 in 2007 to 2.12 now. Granted, there are still lots of illegal immigrants in the OC but at one time they were over 300,000. As for conservatives Texas has almost as bad a problem since business there hired them to do construction and service jobs like dishwashers and fast food. Also, OC kid population has been dropping which is why I think at least some illegals went home or to other parts of California or out of state. The 5 and under population is now onl 6.1 which is slightly below the US average and the under 18 population is about 23.3 also under the national average.. In fact Hispanics were more foreign born as a percentage of the workforce under George W Bush in 2007 when they represent 56 and are now at 49. The only reason I believe that illegal Hispanics are coming and going particularly from Mexico is the birthrate is dropping they tend to have near the 3.0 figure in the US while native born Hispanics are closer to 2.0.
Cynthia Curran July 13, 2014 at 01:13 am
The Central American kids crisis is a law passed under George W Bush because of human trafficking itRead More went to far in the direction of protecting them. On the other hand, Mexico we can just return the kids without having a court hearing that the 2008 act made different for the Central American kids. The hypercracy over many Republicans on immigration allowed companies like here in Orange County and Texas to hire them but pushed border control when probably getting rid of the job magnet a long time ago even under George W Bush's first term would have solved the problem. In Orange County that met not hiring every maid, landscaper, car washer, fast food worker, day labor, low skilled assembly worker usually in garment work or sometimes medical devices or aerospace assembly, and prep cooks. These are just some of the jobs that have been done by illegal immigrants in Orange County the passed 30 years. They entered Santa Ana in the late 1970's and started with simple factory work that is now in Mexico because of NAFTA.

so they will put the horses down to save them. That's great.
Dana July 13, 2014 at 06:12 pm
It's unlikely they will put the horses down if their only issue is a lack of groceries. However,Read More they have obviously been starved on and off for at LEAST a few years if it was first reported in 2011. Like most mammals, this kind of malnutrition can destroy the internal organs. Horses a especially subseptable. I hope the court denies any appeal she makes, because what ever her issue is, she obviously either won't or can't properly care for them.

I'm pretty sure that most comics aimed at an adult audience are intended to stir up conversation,Read More otherwise why would the Patch (an interactive blog posting type of news site that can only profit if they can show advertisers how many people visit their site and how involved their readers are with the content) post comics at all if they don't expect anyone to have a reaction? The entire premise behind Patch is to create an interactive news experience .... sheesh. It is funny to hear people without children who say that what is wrong with the world today is that we lack the values and parenting style of the older generation but when the parents actually try to take a stand on an issue that they believe is important, they are again criticized for not embracing the changing times and the role of technology. It's b.s. - kids are still kids and they will get a good education regardless of whether they are reading their textbooks on paper or on a tablet computer. They can read off a black board, white board or smart board. The content delivery is not nearly as important as the content itself and the belief that there are real people in their lives who are there to support them along the way. How can you get the feeling of real people supporting you if every person you interact with is communicating to you electronically? It just isn't normal and our entire society is to blame.... But, you can just laugh at the funny pictures, too. I won't criticize you for your choice to miss the point of it.
After another baby dies after being left in a hot car, a mother recounts a mistake that might have cost her daughter's life.
Michael Marr July 13, 2014 at 07:46 pm
Forgetting how you got to work, or leaving a baby in a car, are indicators of problems with shortRead More term memory. Short term memory has to do with what you were doing in the last 30 to 60 seconds. These lapses act like a memory wipe -- you know, you get in your car, then go back in the house and then say, why did I come back in the house?
porter gladstone III July 13, 2014 at 08:02 pm
So , RDF you think that there should be consequences for actions. Yes , so do I. And I think I canRead More speak for most everyone else arguing similarly to me, that they also believe that there should be consequences. My belief however is that we all make mistakes in life. Some have more severe results as is in this case. My reaction is more about how you feel that it can never happen to you, and how this can only happen to stupid irresponsible people and that it's obvious to you given what occurred. I'll provide one more piece of anecdotal evidence that I dont think will be viewed as unique: I have a friend who had 4 kids. 3 went on to become successful professionals, and one became a heroin addict. My question to you is my friend a good parent or a bad parent? Is he an idiot or something else? For me it's not as easy an equation. But since you are very good at making determinations, I'll listen to your judgment. (and then after that, I hope your kids turn out the way you hope as sometimes , as they say , shit happens.
PO'G July 13, 2014 at 09:27 pm
