THS Music Students Participate in Music Festivals

The Tolland High School Music Department has had a busy April. Eighty-four students from four performing ensembles participated in the Festivals of Music in Virginia Beach on April 26. The Symphonic Band, Jazz Band and Madrigal Singers were awarded a rating of Excellent for their performances. The Women’s Chorus was awarded a rating of Superior for its performance. The instrumental ensembles were directed by Megan Kirwin. The choral ensembles were directed by Linda Tracy. Earlier in the month, seven students were selected and participated in the Connecticut All-State Music Festival. Marissa Bedard (flute) and Meera Dave (french horn) played in the orchestra, and Matt Della Camera (euphonium) played in the band. Participating in the chorus were Anna Giangregorio , Kari Trice (sopranos), Kaitlyn Leibowitz and Kristen Machuga (altos). The performance was held at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford on April 4. On April 1st, Marissa Bedard received the Connecticut Association of Schools award for Excellence in Music. She is an accomplished flute player and will be attending Baldwin Wallace University in the fall to study music education.
